Different fishing traditions have been developed in the area of Chioggia and the Po River Delta: from traps and fyke nets, to trammel nets and further to trawlers, that actually increase fishing yield by using modern technology. Traditionally, the ability of fishermen relies in a deep knowledge of target species, of their seasonal migration between sea and lagoon, between coastal waters and deeper or offshore waters, reaching sometimes the other side the Adriatic Sea. The different behaviors of the species influence , even today, fishermen’s choice to operate, seasonally , with different gears or to fish in different areas.
